Clean your scissor on a daily basis either before you start or at the end of your day. Simply take a soft cotton towel with some isopropyl alcohol on it. Begin by wiping the blades starting at the pivot area moving toward the tips. Once this is completed, put a drop of oil in the pivot area and spread a drop on the length of each blade.

Daily oiling and cleaning will enhance the performance and extend the cutting life of your scissor. Regular cleaning and lubrication protects against rust and deterioration from chemical/moisture contact in the salon environment, build-up of bacteria attracting debris in the interior pivot and blade area, reduces friction from blade movement, and prolongs sharpness. Always check the tension after cleaning.

Holding the finger side of the shear in your left hand, lift the thumb handle with your right hand until the blades are fully open, and let it go. If it does not fall more then 20% of the way closed, the tension is good. If the blade falls more than 20% of the way closed, on a high quality shear, it is too loose..

Usually as first glance its difficult to tell if a product is authentic or fake. It's usually after you've started cutting with them you realize they maybe fake because of poor quality cuts.

"Buyer beware" if the price is to good to be true and the same brand scissor from multiple dealers is selling at a much higher price. Some other tips that will help ensure you're buying authentic scissors. Buy from a dealer you already know. Buy from an "authorized" dealer if your in question. Get referrals from others that have purchase the same scissor. Always get a sales receipt from the seller. Make sure the sales receipt contains their business name and complete address, with a phone number. It should contain the exact description of the scissor purchase. Check for logos and designs. Some scissors are serialized so you can always contact the manufacturer to verify the serial number. Look for patents or patents pending. Ask the seller for references from previous customers. Check the packaging carefully. This is where counterfeits are usually sloppy with trying to duplicate the package.
